Whats the dosage that causes plaquenil toxicity

One such commonly used medication for dermatologic and rheumatologic inflammatory conditions is hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), a chloroquine derivative. It is used to treat many diseases including malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

A cumulative dose of 1000g of hydroxychloroquine or 460g of chloroquine was likely the largest risk factor, which was typically achieved after 5-7 years of a typical dosage 8, 10. However, there have been case reports of patients with hydroxychloroquine toxicity as early as 1.9 months after starting treatment 11. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections. I normally post on the arthritis board, and due to toxicity of the Plaquenil after 2 years, I have had to discontinue it, since I failed the visual field testing. Although I take Enbrel, and MTX, neither one work as well as the Plaquenil and the fatigue and joint pain have returned full force.

It is imperative that patients and physicians are aware of and watch for this drug’s ocular side effects. Retinal toxicity from hydroxychloroquine is rare, but even if the medication is discontinued, vision loss may be irreversible and may continue to progress.

Joint Pain and Plaquenil Sjogrens - reddit I had several different Rheumatologists diagnose me, even though my blood work came back a little ambiguous. My main issue is joint pain. I was put on Plaquenil, and it seemed to help a little, but I still noticed things bothering me. I went off of it thinking it wasn't helping. The past 2 weeks, my joint pain has been the worst it's ever been.
