    Reducing plaquenil dosage

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Feb 19, 2020 Our Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine Side Effects Drug Center provides a comprehensive view of available drug information on the potential side effects when taking this medication. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. I believe it is like any other drug, side effects can and do happen, but they are very individualized. I would like to be able to keep taking plaquenil, I just want to reduce my dose by half. I had no idea it was going to so profoundly impact me, and I guess I feel like I need to understand why. I am still on the same dosage of MTX as I have been 15 mg per week since I was diagnosed in May 2014. If anyone has experience with reducing their Plaquenil I would appreciate hearing their results.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage, thus lessening the risk of developing a long-term disability from complications of RA. Children—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. At first, 13 mg per kg of body weight taken as a single dose. Then, 6.5 mg per kg of body weight taken 6 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours after the first dose. However, dose is usually not more than 800 mg for the first dose and not more than 400 mg for the next doses. Hydroxychloroquine is generally prescribed at a daily dose of 6.5 milligrams or less per kilogram of body weight. Using this formula, the dosage for a 150-pound person would be 443 mg/day, as one kilogram equals 2.2 pounds. Because HCQ is formulated as a 200 mg tablet, many people taking it for lupus will take two pills per day.

I've been on plaquenil for 6 months now and I still have significant joint pain! After being so glad about having a rheumy that listens I am almost afraid to go in and say "its not working" for fear she will say.... bye" And I did something incredibly stupid last month. So I did and my joints flared (and my nausea got worse) and I felt terrible (fevers, rashes, mouth/nose ulcers, fatigue).
