    Joint pain after stopping plaquenil

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Feb 09, 2012 plaquenil, osteoarthritis, pain, sjogren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus I have been on plaquenil for about 3 years. At one time, i tried to stop taking it due to money issues. Hello all, I am currently new to this site and ran across the discussion about stopping Plaquenil. I have been taking Plaquenil for about 8-9 months and thought that it was not helping me because I still have a fair amount of joint pain, fatigue, muscle pain and so many other issues. After 1 1/2 yrs of my Rheumatologist after me to take the Plaquenil, I'm finally doing it. I have an eye doctors appointment this week and I'll take my first pill after the check up. I am so very scared of it. Thanks to luppylupus Thank you for explaining what the Plaquenil does and how it does it.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

Do you still have joint and muscle pain on plaquenil? I've been on plaquenil for 6 months now and I still have significant joint pain! I can't say that the drug has helped at all, but it is difficult to compare todays pain with that of 6 months ago. Joint pain in SS patients is generally milder than true RA patients. My sed rate and other tests for RA were normal, but I'm off the charts for SS-A and SS-B. It's different for everyone it seems. For me plaquenil seems to have worked. I had a lot of cortisone shots before plaquenil and I didn't tolerate long term prednisone very well. According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage, thus lessening the risk of developing a long-term disability from complications of RA.
