    How to switch from plaquenil to methotrexate


    Yesterday my rheumatologist started me on hydroxychloroquine as well. Is anyone else on this combination and have you had any problems with it as I know hydroxychloroquine can cause eye sight problems.

    Hello hope everyone is well just a quick question, i have been on methotrexate for 2 months increasing from 7.5 to 15 and now to 25mg.weekly now been given plaquenil 400mg daily, has anyone else been on this mixture and has it worked or how long should i wait to see if it works.     Recently my eyes have felt sore and, after posting a question on this site, I am seeing my GP on Monday. Thanks Hi Catjones I have been taking this combination, started on both of them in January this year.

    I am on both methotrexate and plaquenil. I have been on plaquenil for over a year and a half and methotrexate since September. I have had no side effects from either one. I get my eyes checked every six months and I am now at once a month on blood work for my liver enzymes used to be every 2 weeks. May 07, 2017 Plaquenil inhibits disease progression. That means, it keeps it from getting worse and progressing faster. We generally will not be able to tell it is doing anything unless we go off it and see how bad things can get -- which of course is not a recommend act! And, Plaquenil takes 2-3 months to build up in your system. I went to see a new rheum and he took me off the Plaquenil to see what symptoms would show. I have not been formally diagnosed yet. It took 6 weeks to see the results. I went into a bad flare. Went back to rheum and he decided to put me on Methotrexate. I have only taken it once, so I am not sure what the results will be.
