    Lyme combination azithromycin doxycycline hydroxychloroquine

I know minocycline is an antibiotic related to doxycycline, yet I looked plaquenil up and found that it is a DMARD, used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Plaquenil can change the intracellular PH and make antibiotics more effective. It works especially well with macrolide antibiotics. I wasn’t reacting well on the combination (too hard on my digestive system, severe herxing - but I have to add that I don't know which abx caused the problems), but most of my dr’s patients react very well. I found no connection to treating Lyme except that when used in combination with minocycline is affective at treating Lyme arthritis, and is fools insurance companies into thinking arthritis is exactly what is being treated. It's very common for LLMD's to use Plaquenil in all kinds of protocols. It can cause eye problems (I didn’t have them, but I had to stop this combination after 6 weeks).

Drugs with low anti-Bart activity include Doxy and Biaxin even though these drugs are thought to be only Lyme drugs. Minocycline is a little more active against Bart. Zithromax orally is a poor Lyme drug and has mild anti-Bart effects. Rifampin is somewhat more active against Bart. In this 3-arm study, entitled Persistent Lyme Empiric Antibiotic Study Europe PLEASE, ceftriaxone followed by doxycycline arm 1 or ceftriaxone followed by the combination of clarithromycin and hydroxychloroquine arm 2 are compared to short-term therapy with ceftriaxone followed by placebo arm 3. Here, we describe the study protocol. In addition to doxycycline and beta-lactams, some clinical drugs such as vancomycin, ofloxacin, clarithromycin, and hydroxychloroquine, which are not recommended for treating Lyme disease, also exhibited some weak activity on the 10 day old stationary phase B. burgdorferi culture, either alone or in combination with doxycycline and cefoperazone.

We should always watch for side effects that can be damaging!! Yet, of the millions of symptoms Lyme has caused me, arthritis isn't one. My pharmacist (and the dr also afterwards) advised me to get my eyes checked before starting treatment, so that my dr would know for sure where the damage comes from, if I had any showing up.

  6. Many doctors prescribe a cocktail of doxycycline and azithromycin for late-stage Lyme disease. The antibiotics are often prescribed so that the patient takes doxycycline twice daily for months straight, while pulsing shorter courses of azithromycin once per month.

The evidence reviews conducted for antibiotic management of Lyme disease did not pre-specify for how long a person with symptoms related to Lyme disease had those symptoms but was organised by symptom or symptom complex. The review question on the management of non-specific symptoms related to Lyme disease did not identify any studies Mg PO twice daily for 21 days. In a pilot study, doxycycline was compared to azithromycin 500 mg PO daily for 3 days repeated every week for 3 weeks total dose 4,500 mg. Patients were randomized to the doxycycline n = 31 or azithromycin n = 32 regimen; sexual partners were also treated at the same time. Doxycycline and rifampin work well together for the treatment of Lyme and Bartonella, for instance, while Zithromax and Mepron are frequently used for Babesia. Other medications that I use less frequently include amoxicillin and Alinia nitazoxanide.
